Dawlish Warren
The
sandy beach of Dawlish Warren stretches for miles. It slopes very gently
into the sea, and so provides a perfect place for bathing. The Family Beach
area is ideal for children to have fun in the water, especially because an
experienced team of lifeguards is on hand to watch over them. The Family
Beach is European Blue Flag and Seaside Award Clean Beach status and it has
good public facilities nearby, along with a large grassed play area,
children's rides, amusements, cafes and shops all in an area safely away
from the road.
Throughout the summer a programme of free entertainment and events provide thrills and comic capers,
music concerts, children's play parties and a very impressive fireworks
spectacular. There is also a weekly open-air market to entice and delight
bargain hunters!
For excellent value for money holidays the
nearby holiday parks offer a wide choice of caravan and chalet
accommodation. Many parks have heated swimming pools, evening entertainment
and a full range of activities and holiday services. Dawlish Warren also has
some of the most luxurious hotel accommodation in the area, and pubs serving
a good selection of meals.
Dawlish Warren has a wealth of opportunities
for walking. It is situated on the South West Coastal Path, which in one
direction goes to Dawlish, Teignmouth and all the South Devon resorts and in
the other along the Exe estuary to Exeter and East Devon, passing the
magnificent Powderham Castle grounds and several interesting waterside inns
on the way. Inland there are many quiet Devon lanes and expanses of
beautiful countryside to explore, and at the Warren itself there are way
marked trails through the nature conservation area, an internationally
important site for the protection of birds, insects and plants. In fact the
Warren is an ideal centre for a car-free leisure break, with its own railway
station and regular bus services
The Warren has a challenging golf course, and
there is an excellent mini-golf course nearby at the coastal village of
Cockwood. |
